Advising Overview

The University of Georgia’s mandatory undergraduate academic advisement programs are an essential part of the undergraduate educational experience and empower students to attain their academic goals.

Academic advisors of the University of Georgia help undergraduate students understand their options and opportunities for academic programs of study, degree requirements, campus resources, and course selection. Academic advisors engage students in meaningful relationships designed to support and encourage a challenging and successful undergraduate education.

Academic advising is a collaboration between each student and their advisor, and  as such, students are expected to prepare for and participate fully in their advising experience. Ultimately each undergraduate student is responsible for their academic progress at the University of Georgia; advisors cannot provide a guarantee of graduation and/or certification within a specified period of time.

Advising at UGA is decentralized. Each academic school/college/unit houses their own advisors, who are assigned to students based on their declared major within that school or college. Information on each academic school/college/unit's advising office can be found under the "Advising by College" menu heading.
