Advising Resources + Handouts

Academic Advising Flowchart

The Academic Advising Flowchart is a step-by-step guide for scheduling an advising appointment on SAGE. The flowchart encourages students to make sure their major is updated before scheduling an appointment to ensure they are meeting with the correct primary advisor.

Students can view or edit their major(s) on Athena by selecting Student > Student + Registration > Programs.

Student Checklist for Academic Advising + Registration

The Student Checklist for Academic Advising + Registration is a guide to help students understand where they are in the academic advising process each semester. This handout provides students with the step-by-step process for scheduling an advising appointment, preparing for the appointment, and making sure they are ready for registration once their registration date arrives.

Students can schedule an advising appointment on SAGE and can register for courses on Athena.

Registration dates can be found here.

Course Withdrawal Fact Sheet

The Course Withdrawal Fact Sheet is a guide that explains how withdrawing from a course can affect a student while at UGA. The fact sheet also goes through the difference between dropping a course versus withdrawing from a course, Hardship Withdrawals, and the process of withdrawing from a course.

If a student would like to withdraw from a course, they can do so on Athena by selecting Student > Registration > Add or Drop Class. Once the class is located, the student will need to Choose Action > Course Withdrawal > Submit Changes.

Transient Student Coursework Checklist

The Transient Student Coursework Checklist is a guide for students that are considering taking coursework outside of UGA. This checklist provides students with the steps they will need to complete after they have applied as a transient student to another institution and after the transient coursework is completed.

As mentioned in the handout, students should always verify that a course will transfer properly to UGA before pursuing the credit. Students can check this on the Admissions site here.
