AACC organizes courses and requirements for three separate academic advising certificates:

  1. The Certificate in Academic Advising (CAA) was developed in 2007 by Elizabeth Sproston and Amber Fetner, two professional advisors in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences. It covers basic advising information relevant both to prospective and current advisors across campus.
  2. The Advanced Certificate in Academic Advising (ACAA) is designed for academic advisors who have completed the Certificate in Academic Advising and/or have been working as an academic advisor for two or more years. This program provides opportunities to explore and reflect on the theories, practices, and perspectives that inform one’s advising philosophy and work.
  3. The Master Instructor in Academic Advising Certificate (MIAA), developed by Litashia Carter, co-chair of the Advising Certificate subcommittee, recognizes instructors who deliver outstanding courses for advisors across the Academic Advising Certificate (CCA) and Advanced Certificate in Academic Advising (ACAA). This program is for advisors who have completed the Advanced Advising Certificate or have at least five years of experience in academic advising.

Participants may register for CAA and ACAA courses via the PEP website.

If you would like to propose a new course for one of the advising certificates, please fill out this form.  Please use the same form when submitting classes to be included on the PEP calendar each semester.
