The Master Instructor in Academic Advising (MIAA) Certificate, developed by Litashia Carter, co-chair of the Advising Certificate subcommittee, recognizes instructors who deliver outstanding courses for advisors across the Certificate in Academic Advising (CAA), Advanced Certificate in Academic Advising (ACAA), and the Inclusive Excellence in Advising Certificate. This program is for advisors who have completed the Advanced Advising Certificate or have at least five years of experience in academic advising.
The MIAA program aims to enhance advisors’ professional development by refining their skills in training, mentoring, and leading professional development initiatives. It prepares advisors to serve as expert instructors, promoting excellence in the advising profession.
MIAA Requirements
Instruct 6 courses + a reflection meeting with the Director of Advising
- 1 Certificate in Academic Advising Course
- 1 Advanced Certificate in Academic Advising Course
- 1 Inclusive Excellence in Academic Advising Course
- 3 additional courses, which can include reteaching one course from each area or creating a new course for each area.
